Discover my Shropshire

Discover My Shropshire is a social gaming experience in the landscape, using reward systems and QR codes in rural location to link to video/audio/images to enhance the visitor experience.

Role of partners?

Shropshire County Council view the landscape as their main asset. The role of Orangeleaf was to update visitor experience using digital technologies.

Why is it needed?
Shropshire County Council has a lot of information to enhance the tourist offer, specifically historical archive and data. Using QR codes in the landscape able to link user to this data and push notifications to mobile to encourage more visitor spend and longer and repeat visits. Broadens the heritage experience.

What are the success factors and challenges?
The project has been launched with wider interest from the Wildlife Trust and National Trust UK organisations. Use of QR codes and social media has now been embedded within the local authority plans to roll out to Transport and Building Control Directorates. Shropshire County Council now has 30 Facebook pages and 10 Twitter accounts with 7,000 followers. The challenges to this project have been opening out local government controlled data sets, and the legal implications.
