The CulturApp is a location aware mobile app to deliver cultural content about Charles Dickens to lead the user on a trail around sites in London mentioned in the literary work of Charles Dickens.

Role of partners?
Seren Partners had to design a mobile app that would lead a different trail around London dependent on which Dickens character the user chose to follow.

Why is it needed?
The bi-centenary of Charles Dickens was in 2012 and there were expected to be large numbers of visitors to London that would want to interact with the archive content curated by Exhibition Rd.

What are the success factors and challenges?
The project moved to fully working app from R&D stage within 6months, the progress of this project was mapped and evaluated by NESTA (National Endowment for Science Technology and Arts) and part of a national digital R&D programme, resourced by Arts Council England. Originally it was to include Augmented Reality functions to enable user to ‘see’ characters using mobile & tablet devices. This proved to costly and not enough time to develop this function.
