Lichtspiele by dorena-wm - Found on Flickr (CC) Berlin (in the area of Design), Linz (in the area of Media Arts) is now the second UNESCO Creative City within the cross innovation partnership! During the “Forum Creative Industries: the Nite of the Swoosh”-event on November 27th 2014, it was announced that Linz is one of the 69 UNESCO Creative Cities.

The title of UNESCO Creative City is particularly important for the development of the region to strengthen their network and position. Linz is now considered one of the very future-oriented metropoles in Europe. Cross Innovation partner organisation Creative Region Linz & Upper Austria was in the lead in the application process, in partnership with Ars Electronica, Kulturamt der Stadt Linz, OÖ Kulturquartier and Arts University Linz.

Creative Centre
In 2009 Linz was already declared the Cultural Capital, and was assigned the Creative City of Media Arts-title by the UNESCO programme. The city its pioneer role in media arts and digital media competences, the cultural-oriented city development programmes and the dynamic creative economy was key to receiving a place in the UNESCO top creative city ranking. Linz has the ambition to strengthen their international position to become a European Creative Centre.
